Since the launch of the hospitalization service on December 28th, le Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Mère-Enfant Fondation Jeanne Ebori (CHUMEFJE) continues to perform at optimum level. Since then, the hospital registered 180 births.
From the 180 births, 39 caesareans were performed successfully in the state-of-the-art operating theatre. As of January 14, 2019, the hospital has already received 3,000 outpatient consultations and over 1000 consultations in gynecology.
“It’s really a joy to be the first mother to give birth here”, said Catricia Djaba, the first woman to give birth to a child at CHUMEFJE. Catricia was initially at another hospital but was sent to transfer to CHUMEFJE because it was said that they had the appropriate material. “After having transferred, we were very well received; the midwives took excellent care of us.”
The Ministry of Health appointed a staff of 550 including but not limited to Gabonese teachers, pediatricians, gynecologists, doctors, midwives, state-certified nurses, as well as administrative staff.
Sphera Global Health Care partnered with the Gabonese government to build a new hospital management system for CHU Mère-Enfant Hospital. The CHU Mère-Enfant specializes in the treatment of mother-child pathologies. It has an area of 22,500 m2 with a capacity of 200 beds.
